As a Ph.D holder, you are eligible to be employed as a lecturer in any tertiary institution. In addition, you can also be employed to function in the office of a university researcher. However, it should be noted that not everyone who has the title of Doctor that earned it. There’s the medical doctor, native doctor, alternative therapy doctor and also the honorary doctorate. DPhil also known as PhD or Ph.D is not a doctorate degree that’s restricted to the discipline of Philosophy. Anyone who has been conferred upon with this academic doctorate means he or she has vast experience across social sciences, mathematics and natural sciences.

What must I do to earn a doctorate degree in Philosophy?

It should be noted that PhD is the highest degree that anyone can obtain from any tertiary institution. Although there similar doctorate degrees for instance in faculty of education, a doctoral student who satisfy the conditions of the university will be awarded Ed.D- meaning Doctor of Education. Amongst these entire doctorate degrees earned in the universities, Doctor of Philosophy is the most awarded. Reason being that doctoral students offering this doctoral program do study wide across a good number of discipline compared to Ed.D or D.M.A. So in order to earn a Doctor of Philosophy, you need to satisfy the following conditions:

  • Undergraduate degree program completion

The first step is to obtain a first degree from a recognized university. This is made possible by writing a couple of entrance examinations into the University of your Choice and meeting up with the cutoff point required by such university to study an undergraduate course amongst other demands.

  • Master’s degree program completion

This is also essential but not mandatory in most cases after obtaining your first degree.

  • Research and write dissertation

After applying to study a doctoral program and admitted based on meeting the necessary condition prescribed as standard by the university authority. You’ll be expected to go through series of course work, write examinations, do robust research and write dissertation on the research which will eventually be published on a notable journal.
