Following a study carried out by one of the prominent Universities in the U.S- the University of California at San Francisco. It has been discovered that fifty percent of the women who subjected themselves to mammography- the systematic use of minimum energy to diagnose the human breast for the detection of early breast cancer were given false-positive report.
These women were in turn compelled to undergo further diagnosis via the use of which possibly exposes them to health impediments like anesthesia, blotch and other contaminations which can bring about the imagined disease instead of resolving it. As a result of this, a projection by the National Cancer Institute has raised the fears that the state will witness an unprecedented level of increase in women who will be tested positive to breast cancer.
Dr. Philip Rosenberg; an official of a U.S Cancer group has stressed the need for medical expert in mammography to chat a better modality in diagnosing breast cancer so as to curtail its unwarranted increase among women due to inappropriate practices, as he said, ‘My team’s purpose was to come up with a snapshot of what breast cancer might look like in the future because the number of cases will be 50 percent higher in 2030 than they were in 2011’.
Dr. Philip Rosenberg who was quite worried at the rate of increase of breast cancer among women in the U.S. further warned that if proper care is not taken the upsurge of breast cancer cases from 283 000 to about 440 000 among women in the U.S will be further triggered by the massive and aged citizenry which will be compounded by palpable type of cancers with regards to those that will be diagnosed by mammography.
However, Rosenberg’s cancer group was not alone in the advocacy for best practices in diagnosing breast cancer as another official of a cancer group, Dr.Michael LeFevre also lend his voice on his group’s position in making a proper definition of younger women and mammography as he said, ‘Younger women should work with their doctors in order to balance the pros and cons of mammography and make a determination that best fits their situation and values’.
